The Rhythmic Philosophy
Deep Work philosophy, Visual Markers or The Chain Method, and interesting stuff...
Hey Reader,
I have been reading Atomic Habits and Deep Work and in this newsletter, I will be sharing strategies that are mentioned in both books and are interlinked too.
Letโs Go ๐
The Rhythmic Philosophy of Deep Work
It is a simple scheduling heuristic: Do the Work Every Day
This philosophy argues that the easiest way to consistently start deep work sessions is to transform them into a simple regular habit.
Some people could manage multiple tasks and excel in them despite time constraints and a busy schedule. How?
They consistently do that task every day and at the same time. They ritualized their task. They take away a chunk of time and free it from all the distractions and concentrate on a single task.
If you are a night owl- block 2 hours, put your phone on flight mode, and work.
If you are a morning chirp- block 2 hours and make sure not to check your phone.๐
This philosophy works really well compared to any other in the book Deep Work.
As a student and with the constant need to be social and keeping a tap on multiple things, we can not just disappear from the world.
Duhhh! Insta life is important for most of you.
Reward It ๐
Combining deep work with a concept mentioned in the book Atomic Habit.
After completing the task, reward yourself with the thing you love but make sure it is good for your health or it can be a good habit too.
Example: After 2 hours of deep work in the morning, you can go for a run.
How productive this sounds?
Leave a comment if you have any thoughts or if you are going to try it.
โWe are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.โย โ Aristotle
The Chain Method
Jerry Seinfield was a famous comedian and he was in a cafe once. He was approached by a young comedian Issac, who asked for tips from him.
Seinfield explained a specific technique he used to help maintain his discipline. He used to keep a calendar on his wall. Everyday day that he writes jokes he crosses out the date in the calendar with a big โXโ. โ After a few days, you will have a chain,โ Seinfeld said.
This story is mentioned in both books.
It is part of Habit Tracking
Tracking your habit and having a visual marker makes a behavior obvious, attractive and satisfying.
When the evidence is right in front of you, youโre less likely to lie to yourself.
The benefits of tracking:
Creates a visual cue that can remind you to act.
Is inherently motivating because you see the progress you are making and donโt want to lose it
Feels Satisfying whenever you record another successful instance of your habit.
